Do you have a passion for helping students? Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher for SY 2026-2027 at the New River Valley Juvenile Detention Home in Christiansburg, Virginia. This is an 11-month position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will provide instruction to students in life development skills as well as career goals and exploration. They will be responsible for sharing IEP information with other teachers and ensuring the services described in the IEP’s are being provided. They will conduct IEP reviews, initiate IEP amendments and addenda as necessary, and meet with parents to discuss any changes that need to be made to a student’s IEP. This position will develop and implement an instructional program that will effectively provide the best possible educational opportunities for each student.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a current Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement in the area of Special Education
- Communicate effectively with strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Have knowledge of medical aspects of disabilities and their implications for instruction
- Have knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate special education students into the least restrictive environment
- Possess the ability to effectively assess student learning and use results to plan and implement appropriate instruction
- Have experience in curriculum development and developing lesson plans
- Have experience and expertise in using technology in education to enhance instruction and learning
- Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of all students
- Have experience or working familiarity with Google Drive for instructional purposes, collaboration, and managing coursework
- Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment
- Engage and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and families
- Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities
FLSA Status: Exempt
SALARY: $58,115.58 - $93,478.64 annually; with benefits; commensurate with experience (salary may change to 2026-2027 budget considerations)
