The Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Reading Specialist position that is currently available at Margaret Beeks Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Reading Specialist works with administrators, teachers, and other school staff to plan and implement the Instructional Reading program in the assigned school, designed to supplement the regular classroom teachers’ efforts toward meeting the needs of identified pupils.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher’s License with appropriate endorsement in Elementary Education and Reading Specialist/Developmental Reading
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Experience in curriculum development
• Experience in utilizing technology in an instructional environment
• One or more years of experience as a classroom teacher
• Functional knowledge of commonly used office equipment and work-flow technologies
• Ability to foster an inclusive learning environment
• Ability to accept responsibility for the sole supervision of students in a classroom
• Ability to maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
• Ability to multi-task, work with interruptions, and work under pressure
• Ability to be dependable and punctual

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's of Reading degree
• Completion of training in the science-of-reading (LETRS)
