PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Elementary School Principal will coordinate administrative oversight and plan all phases of instructional leadership for the school, including educational programming, administration, budgetary planning, discipline, and family engagement.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversees the daily management of the school, maintaining high standards of student conduct and staff professionalism
  • Supervises educators in the school, providing timely, constructive observations and evaluations based on school division timelines
  • Provides necessary training and guidance to professional staff based on evaluations
  • Hires all faculty and staff for the school
  • Ensures a productive learning environment through continuous collaboration with teachers, students, and families
  • Encourages the belief that all children can learn and achieve at high levels, setting high expectations for academic excellence
  • Facilitates opportunities to connect with students by being present during arrival and dismissal, attending school functions, and making frequent classroom visits
  • Enforces disciplinary policies and procedures with students
  • Participates in parent meetings and conferences, serving as an intermediary between parents, teachers, and students to address various needs or issues
  • Ensures timely completion of routine paperwork and administrative tasks
  • Leads effective and efficient staff meetings
  • Coordinates staff development and provides instruction if needed
  • Oversees the completion of annual needs assessments and ongoing comprehensive school improvement plans
  • Ensures necessary cleaning, maintenance, and repairs to school property
  • Manages the allocation of supplies and equipment
  • Oversees and implements the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate and deemed necessary according to the school’s improvement plan
  • Represents the school in community activities and meetings
  • Fosters positive relationships between the school and the community, including parent/teacher organizations and community leaders
  • Acts as liaison between the school board office administration and the school, promoting the importance of a unified team; communicates needs and information to both sides
  • Collaborates with other principals and educators throughout the division
  • Demonstrates effective instructional leadership skills and a thorough understanding of evidence-based best practices in instructional methodology
  • Ensures that the school meets state and federal accreditation and accountability requirements
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders through outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Cultivates an inclusive, equitable, and warm learning environment for a diverse student population
  • Demonstrates experience or working familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration, and coursework
  • Identifies and effectively solves problems
  • Demonstrates an understanding of applicable local, state, and federal educational laws, regulations, policies, and requirements
  • Models professional behavior by being dependable, punctual, and present

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited institution
  • Postgraduate Professional license with administration and supervision endorsement required
  • Hold or immediately be eligible for a Virginia license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision: PreK-12
  • Experience in implementing educational programs

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of full-time teaching experience and five years of assistant principal and/or principal experience preferred
  • Experience at the elementary level
