IMMEDIATE OPENING - MCPS

Secondary Special Education Teacher - 2023-2024

On Campus Transition Program, Radford University (OCTP-RU)

 

The Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for a secondary special education teaching position that is available at the OCTP-RU.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

To develop and implement a postsecondary instructional program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each adult student with a disability.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a current Virginia Teacher’s License with appropriate endorsement in Special Education in the area to which assigned
  • Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Have knowledge of medical aspects of disabilities and their implications for instruction
  • Have knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate special education students into the least restrictive environment
  • Have experience in writing Individualized Education Programs for students on an Applied Studies track that support the attainment of postsecondary goals
  • Have experience in curriculum development and developing lesson plans that address the individualized learning needs of a student with a disability
  • Have experience and expertise in using technology in education and using assistive technology to increase student independence
  • Experience in fostering an inclusive learning environment
  • Have experience or working familiarity with Google Suite for instruction, data collection, collaboration, and programming
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and families
  • Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently off-campus to implement programming for postgraduate students with disabilities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience administering transition assessments to students with disabilities
  • Experience implementing evidence-based practices (EBPs), such as task analysis, community based instruction, computer-assisted instruction, peer-assisted instruction, self-monitoring, video modeling, prompting, time delay, and visual supports  in specially designed instruction related to postsecondary goals
  • Experience implementing programming to support the attainment of independent living goals
  • Experience implementing programming to support the attainment of employment goals
  • Experience collaborating with participating agencies to provide activities and services to adult students with disabilities
